MD, PhD Lech Karwicki

I specialise in issues related to musculoskeletal cancers and the treatment of bone metastases, to which I devoted my doctorate titled “Evaluation of the treatment approach to bone metastases”, defended under the supervision of Prof. Marek Synder – President of the Polish Society of Orthopaedics and Traumatology of the Musculoskeletal System.
Over more than thirty years of professional work I have closely collaborated with leading centres of oncological orthopaedics in Poland, clinical oncology and tumour pathology centres, performing, among others: extensive resections of pelvic tumours and soft tissue tumours, modular post-resection knee, hip and shoulder arthroplasties using modern implants and prostheses, including one of the first arthroplasties in Poland using a silver-coated endoprosthesis.

Publications

Author of more than a dozen publications in Polish journals on oncological orthopaedics, including modular post-resection arthroplasty, megaprosthesis use in bone cancers, and the surgical treatment of bone metastases. Selected publications appear in Acta Clinica et Morphologica (2000–2004), Chirurgia Narządu Ruchu Ortopedia Polska (1996) and Kwartalnik Ortopedyczny (1994, 1995).

Scientific presentations

Speaker at numerous conferences and scientific meetings on orthopaedic oncology, diagnostics and surgical treatment, including: Bayer-Schering Conference 2011, the 7th Scientific Conference of the Polish Physiotherapy Society 2011, the 9th Symposium of the Clinic of Paediatric and Adolescent Oncological Surgery of the Institute of Mother and Child 2006, and the 32nd Scientific Congress of the Polish Orthopaedic and Traumatological Society.
