MD, PhD Łukasz Zapała

Dr Łukasz Zapała is a habilitated doctor of medical and health sciences, a specialist in urology (FEBU) and assistant professor at the Department of General, Oncological and Functional Urology of the Medical University of Warsaw.

His main areas of clinical specialisation include minimally invasive surgical treatment of genitourinary cancers. He also deals with the diagnosis and treatment of voiding disorders and with the treatment of urinary tract stones. His competencies are confirmed by numerous certificates, including a da Vinci robotic console surgeon certificate and a certificate in sacral neuromodulation implantation.

Professional experience

Dr Łukasz Zapała gained his professional experience at, among other places, the Urology Department of the Międzyleski Specialist Hospital in Warsaw. He currently serves as assistant professor at the Department of General, Oncological and Functional Urology of the Medical University of Warsaw. He obtained his doctorate in medical sciences on the basis of a doctoral dissertation in the basic medical sciences at the Department of Immunology, Centre of Biostructure, Medical University of Warsaw.

Dr hab. Łukasz Zapała is a Board member of the EAU Section of Outpatient and Office Urology. He participated as an Associate Member of the European Panel in the development of the guidelines for the treatment of penile cancer in 2025 (EAU Guidelines on Penile Cancer). Since 2020 he has been a reviewer for papers presented at the Annual EAU Congress and a member of the Scientific Committee of the Congress of the Polish Urological Association (PTU).

He has also collaborated on the translation of the guidelines for the management of prostate cancer (EAU Guidelines on Prostate Cancer) for the Polish Urological Association.

From 2009 to 2012 he provided medical consultations during the translation of the script for the series “House M.D.”

His output includes publications in the world’s leading urological journals, including the official journal of the European Association of Urology – “European Urology” – among them multi-centre and international publications. He is a member of the scientific boards of the international journals “Asian Journal of Urology” and “Central European Journal of Urology”. From 2024 to 2025 he was a member of the Scientific Council of PZU Zdrowie S.A.

He is a member of the Polish Urological Association and the European Association of Urology.
