Hip and Knee Joint Replacement Centre

At LUX MED Carolina Hospital, we perform knee and hip joint replacement procedures. We use innovative implants, individually tailored to each patient’s needs. We also carry out revision surgeries.

We are a private facility where specialists have been helping patients recover for over 25 years.

What is joint replacement (arthroplasty)?

Joint replacement (also called arthroplasty or endoprosthesis implantation) is a surgical procedure in which a damaged joint, or part of it, is replaced with an artificial implant. It most commonly involves the knee or hip joint, but may also cover other joints such as the ankle or shoulder.

Arthroplasty is recommended for patients with:

  • advanced degenerative joint disease (e.g. osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis)
  • joint damage caused by trauma (e.g. fracture, dislocation)
  • conservative treatment (physiotherapy, medication, joint injections) that has not produced the desired results
  • severe pain and joint stiffness limiting daily activities

What to expect after joint replacement surgery?

  • Pain relief — reduction or complete elimination of pain that was affecting walking, sitting and sleep
  • Improved joint mobility and increased range of motion
  • Better quality of life — return to activities that were previously impossible (e.g. cycling)
  • Greater mobility and independence — you will be able to move independently
  • Improved posture and gait, with a positive effect on the whole musculoskeletal system

Comprehensive care from start to finish

From the first consultation through surgery to rehabilitation, we are with you at every step. An individual treatment plan and physiotherapy mean that most of our patients return to activity much sooner than they expect. Our guiding principle: no two cases are the same, so we tailor our approach and surgical technique to each patient’s specific needs.

Advanced technologies
3
Advanced technologies

We use only the highest quality implants and advanced surgical techniques to minimise pain and recovery time. Our hospital uses only implants manufactured in the European Union and the USA. The right choice of prosthesis depends on the patient’s individual needs and joint anatomy, so a consultation with an orthopaedic surgeon is essential.

Robotic-assisted surgery

At LUX MED Carolina Hospital, we perform robotic-assisted knee joint replacement surgery.

Ceramic hip resurfacing — new to market!

Ceramic hip resurfacing is a type of hip surgery in which a ceramic-headed implant is used to resurface the joint rather than replacing it entirely (as in conventional total hip replacement). It is a form of hip resurfacing surgery — a bone-conserving procedure.

  • Intended particularly for patients who are not suitable candidates for conventional metal-on-metal resurfacing.
  • Next-generation ceramics have lower wear rates, eliminating concerns about metal ions appearing in the bloodstream.
  • The implants are the smallest available on the market, starting from 42 mm — opening up new treatment options particularly for women and smaller-framed men.
  • Ceramics reduce the risk of complications such as articular surface wear and adverse reactions to metals, as seen with metal-on-metal prostheses.
